Would you believe it if a smartphone dropped from over 100,000 feet in the stratosphere outside Earth's atmosphere continued functioning perfectly?
On June 24, 2026, in Sweden, an iPhone 17 Pro equipped with RHINOSHIELD's AirX phone case was dropped from a height of 100,418 feet (30,607 meters) to the ground for a durability test.
The phone was transported via a weather balloon and dropped freely from the edge of space to the ground without any parachute or other protective equipment.
During the 25-minute fall, the device faced extreme conditions. It endured freezing temperatures ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to minus 60 degrees Celsius, and intense atmospheric pressure of only about 1 percent of sea level pressure.
According to Guinness World Records' strict standards, the phone case experienced direct, rough impact with the ground.
A search team used tracking systems to locate the phone in a remote forest in Sweden, taking over 5 hours to find it.
Remarkably, when it was recovered, the phone was still functioning normally, as confirmed by Guinness World Records officials themselves.
