An investor group including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is nearing completion of a deal to acquire approximately one-third stake in English Premier League club Liverpool FC.

The group is led by Armit Bhatia, nephew of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, and an official announcement regarding the agreement is expected within this week or next week.

If this sale goes through, Liverpool FC's valuation could reach up to $6 billion USD, making it one of the highest-valued agreements in sports history.

Bezos, among the world's wealthiest individuals, has a net worth exceeding $280 billion, while Saverin owns over $32 billion. Sources indicate that over 30 percent stake could be involved in this transaction.

The current owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), acquired Liverpool FC in 2010 for £300 million, so this current agreement demonstrates their significant financial success.

While Bezos has not previously invested in football, this development shows that the sports world is increasingly being viewed by wealthy investors as a distinct investment opportunity.
