Bill Gates has warned that governments around the world are lagging behind in preparing to address the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In an interview with Reuters, Gates stated that governments are far behind on AI and need to do more regarding job losses and cybersecurity risks.
The Gates Foundation has announced it will invest $1 billion over the next two years to expand the use of AI technology in the healthcare, education, and agriculture sectors. The initiative will support AI tools for healthcare workers, teachers, and farmers in technology-disadvantaged developing countries, while also improving language capability and accessibility.
Gates is not calling for a halt to AI development, but rather urging governments to keep pace with technology and prepare for both its benefits and harms. He is engaged in discussions with world leaders and has met with U.S. President Donald Trump, with plans to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping as well.
