He states that the current time has reached an unstable AI era, and governments should take preparatory measures accordingly. AI could potentially replace work in legal, customer service, medical, software, and manufacturing sectors.
Gates is particularly concerned that as companies increasingly use AI, job opportunities for young people could diminish. If the economic benefits of AI are gained by only a select few, inequality could increase further. Additionally, he highlights risks including criminals misusing AI, AI systems performing unexpected behaviors, and children becoming overly dependent on AI companions.
To address these problems, Gates suggests creating jobs that should be exclusively reserved for humans, even if AI or robots could perform them. He also supports taxing AI and robots, using those revenues to retrain workers and allocate funds to social programs. Despite these risks, with proper preparation, AI can bring significant benefits to healthcare, education, and economic sectors.
