China has successfully tested an AI-powered autonomous flying lifeboat designed to rescue drowning people before rescue teams arrive. The innovative drone was demonstrated during a water rescue drill in Hangzhou, Jiangxi Province, led by local police forces.
During the test, the yellow lifeboat autonomously took off from shore and flew directly to the person in distress in the water. Upon landing gently on the water surface, it immediately halted its propellers, allowing the drowning person to safely grasp it. The drone then remained stable on the water until rescue teams arrived, and after the person was rescued, it automatically returned to its original location.
The system utilizes automatic route-finding AI technology, enabling it to reach people in distress without requiring manual remote control operation. At a press conference held on August 14, Lin Jian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the autonomous flying lifeboat and noted that this technology will play an important role in saving human lives in the future.
