The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has banned testing of smartphones and electronic devices for sale in the American market at laboratories located in China.
Currently, approximately 75 percent of products in the American market rely on testing from Chinese laboratories. However, due to China being identified as a security threat, the FCC has implemented this strict ban.
Additionally, the FCC has proposed banning device testing in any country that does not have a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with the United States.
If this proposal is approved, it will not affect currently sold older phone models, but it will pose a challenge for new models coming in the future.
New smartphones to be released later will need to be sent to laboratories in other countries approved by the FCC for testing and inspection before being sent to the United States.
This process will increase costs for phone manufacturers and may take longer, but the FCC considers it a necessary step to move forward.
