The technology allows the robot to mirror the trainer's movements in real time — a common method for teaching humanoid robots complex motions. At first, everything goes smoothly. The trainer performs punches and kicks, and the G1 follows along without issue. But at one point, the robot appears to miscalculate a turn and delivers a direct kick straight between the trainer's legs. The reaction is immediate: the trainer doubles over in pain, dropping to his knees. Seconds later, the robot mirrors the same motion — bending forward as if it too were in pain — a moment that quickly became a meme across social media platforms. The video spread from Bilibili to X (formerly Twitter) the next day, going viral rapidly. Tesla Cybertruck chief engineer Wes Morrill was among the many who reshared it, and it spread across Reddit and other forums. The humanoid robot has previously demonstrated table tennis, basketball shooting, and martial arts moves. But this incident highlights one of the risks of close-range teleoperation: even a slight timing error or misread movement can produce unexpected — and painfully comic — results.
