Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin Announces Satellite Internet to Rival Elon Musk's Starlink
Blue Origin has announced a satellite internet service called TeraWave to compete with Starlink — though it currently targets tens of thousands of users compared to Starlink's 9 million.
Jeff Bezos's space company Blue Origin announced its own satellite internet service on Wednesday, called "TeraWave," designed to compete with Elon Musk's Starlink. Starlink currently dominates the satellite internet market.
Compared to Starlink, TeraWave's network will initially serve only tens of thousands of users, while Starlink had 9 million subscribers as of December 2025. TeraWave will also have far fewer satellites than Starlink's current constellation of approximately 9,300.
The announcement follows Amazon's recent rebranding of its satellite project Project Kuiper to Amazon Leo, with 32 new satellites planned for launch next month — adding to the 27 already launched in April. The Amazon Leo project will ultimately include over 3,000 satellites.
Satellite industry analyst Tim Farrar told PCMag that both Amazon Leo and Blue Origin's TeraWave appear to target overlapping customer bases.
