Former US President Donald Trump has flatly stated that concerns about AI technology dominating the world and destroying humanity are nothing but misinformation. He emphasized that America cannot afford to slow its development in the AI field while China is aggressively pushing to lead from the front in AI technology. On September 13, he even claimed that whoever defeats AI will conquer everything.
This pushback comes at a time when significant disagreements have emerged among top technology leaders regarding the risks of AI. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Elon Musk have called for slowing AI development. However, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg completely oppose such deceleration plans.
In reality, these disputes focus less on halting AI entirely and more on how quickly the most powerful AI systems should be developed and what safety security measures should be implemented. Trump maintains that America should continue advancing rapidly in the AI field to avoid falling behind China, and he also stated that the government can implement necessary regulations if needed.
