Recently, engineer Sammy Azdoufal accidentally discovered a major security vulnerability while trying to control his DJI Romo robot vacuum with a PlayStation controller. Through that vulnerability, he was able to access data from approximately 7,000 robot vacuums across 24 countries, including camera feeds, microphones, and home floor maps. After Azdoufal responsibly reported the issue, DJI quietly patched the vulnerability and later confirmed it would award him $30,000 for his discovery. This incident serves as a reminder that internet-connected smart home devices can harbor critical security weaknesses.
