A new technology has emerged that can provide the sensation of walking and bouncing lightly as if on the lunar surface. The "Augmented Leap" backpack-mounted drone system developed by Tokyo University researchers will make people feel significantly lighter. Thanks to the upward thrust from six propellers installed on the user's back, the system can reduce body weight by up to two-thirds, enabling higher and longer jumps in the air.
According to test results, users of this system demonstrated maximum jumping ability increased by 10 to 16 percent compared to normal jumping, and air time increased noticeably by 70 to 80 percent. According to the researchers, the system could greatly assist in easily crossing obstacles such as streams, rubble, and small gaps. However, it is specifically designed to assist in jumping rather than for flying through the sky like a jetpack.
What's interesting is that this concept is based on the Lunavity project that started in 2018. However, the current Augmented Leap has emerged as a more innovative system with a distinctive six-propeller design. Currently, the device remains in the research prototype phase, but in the future, it could become useful for various aspects of our daily movement and activities.
