SpaceX is planning to invest $100 billion to construct a massive new Starbase facility near Boca Chica Island in Louisiana. The project site spans 125,000 acres and is approximately eight times larger than Manhattan.
The space station will include 10 rocket launch pads, as well as manufacturing facilities for Starship rockets and fuel production. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for 2029, and the project is expected to create over 11,100 jobs.
SpaceX selected this location due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, vast land area, and existing natural gas infrastructure. However, since much of the selected area consists of coastal wetlands, environmental concerns have been raised by conservation organizations and local residents regarding potential environmental impacts.
