President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns that advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology could devastate the world as purely politically fabricated deception. In addition, he officially announced on Saturday the formation of a new 'AI Force' unit that will specially monitor and prevent unethical practices in the AI sector. He firmly warned that this major initiative, which is the lifeblood of America's future competitiveness, will be protected from sabotage by political enemies.
Similar to how he successfully established the Space Force in his previous term, Trump stated that he will carefully select and appoint highly talented individuals for the AI Force. This unit will not hinder AI technological advancement but will instead support and nurture its growth. However, he emphasized that malicious schemes originating from criminal justice systems will be dealt with severely.
Trump's announcement comes at a time when bipartisan pressure in Congress is mounting for AI control legislation. More interestingly, next week at the White House, Trump is scheduled to meet with chief executives from leading tech companies including OpenAI, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, and Google. Additionally, he is expected to lead an AI-related event at the United Nations, and AI is poised to become a key deciding factor in discussions with Chinese officials.
